Get to Know Our Staff

The Rev. Dr. David Turner has served Central as Senior Pastor since March 2005. Prior to his call as Senior Pastor, David served Central as Associate Pastor/Administrator. He came to Central from First Baptist Church of Griffin, Georgia, having previously served in hospital chaplaincy, and at churches in Georgia. He is married to the Rev. Christy Haga Turner, a United Methodist pastor and, together, they have two sons.
Currently, Dr. Turner serves on the Board of Directors for Baptists Today magazine and is a past moderator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia (CBFVA). His interests include Christian education, reading, history, current events, baseball, and college football.

Associate Pastor of Music
B. S., Virginia Tech; M. Div. in Church Music, Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond
The Rev. Nelson Taylor serves as Associate Pastor of Music. Originally from Charlottesville, he spent 25 years in the insurance business and served in several church music and youth ministries before being called into full-time ministry. He directs the sanctuary choir, children’s choirs, and coordinates all matters pertaining to music and, together with the pastor and other staff, artfully crafts the order of worship. Nelson is the staff liaison for the finance, transportation, premises and music committees.

The Rev. Abigail Pratt joined us in 2014. She provides leadership for children and youth ministry an
dmissional engagement in the community and world. Abby serves as ourstaff leader for children, youth, and college ministry, as well our many mission initiatives and relationships, including Broken Loaves Food Pantry, Providence Elementary Partnership, CCHASM Thanksgiving, MDBA Christmas store, Impact Virginia, and many more. She also helps lead our communications efforts.
